How to compress a GIF online
Drag a GIF into the upload box, or tap to pick from your device. Max 50 MB.
64 or 128 colors works for most reaction GIFs. Drop to 32 for chat-app size limits.
Capping width to 320 or 480 px usually halves file size with no visible loss.
Server-side ffmpeg builds an optimised palette and re-encodes. Takes a few seconds.
When the preview appears, hit Download. No watermark, no signup.
GIF Compressor FAQs
Is the GIF compressor free?
Yes — every compression is free. No signup, no payment, no daily limit, no watermark added to the output.
How much smaller will my GIF get?
Typical compression lands between 40-80%. Lowering palette to 64 colors and capping width at 320 px usually shrinks reaction GIFs to roughly 30-40% of the original.
Will quality drop?
GIF only supports 256 colors per frame, so dropping to 64 or 128 is barely visible on most content. Bright gradients (skies, neon) will band more — keep palette at 192-256 if your GIF has those.
What is the max file size?
50 MB per upload. If your source is bigger, resize first with our GIF resizer or trim the duration.
Does it add a watermark?
No watermarks, ever. The GIF you download is exactly what the encoder produced.
Why is my GIF still big after compression?
Long duration and large dimensions matter more than palette size. Use the width cap to scale down, or trim the GIF before compressing.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows?
Yes. Works in any modern browser. Encoding runs on GIFDB servers so your device doesn't do the heavy lifting.
What palette size works for chat apps?
WhatsApp / Discord / Telegram chat caps tend to be 5-8 MB. 64 colors + 480 px width fits comfortably for clips up to 5 seconds.
Will the animation still play after compression?
Yes — frames, timing, and loop count are preserved. Only the per-frame palette is reduced.
Can I compress an animated WebP?
Not yet — this tool only accepts GIF. Convert your WebP to GIF first.
