GIF Caption FAQs

Is the GIF caption maker free?

Yes — every render is free. No signup, no payment, no daily limit, no watermark.

What style is the text?

Classic meme style — white fill with a thick black outline, sized at one twelfth of the GIF height. Top text sits at the top edge, bottom text at the bottom.

Can I just use top text or just bottom text?

Yes — leave either field blank and only the other one renders.

What is the max characters per line?

120 characters per line. Very long lines wrap awkwardly — the classic meme look prefers ~30-50 chars.

Does it support emoji?

Basic emoji works in many fonts but the bundled font has limited glyph coverage. Stick to text for predictable output.

Is the font customisable?

Not yet — current output uses Impact-style sans-serif. Custom fonts and colors are on the roadmap.

Will the caption animate or stay still?

It stays still — the same caption is overlaid on every frame, like a classic meme.

What is the max file size?

50 MB per GIF upload.

Can I caption a video?

Convert the video to GIF first using MP4 to GIF, then caption here. Or use a video editor for the source MP4.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Any modern browser. Encoding runs on GIFDB servers.
